FIG awards Dipa Karmakar with 'World Class Gymnast' badge ahead of Rio Olympics

New Delhi: Soon after becoming India' first female gymnast to have qualified for Rio Olympics, Dipa Karmakar has now been named a ' World Class Gymnast' by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG).
FIG had sent a letter to Dipa confirming the athlete's distinction. Along with the letter, was enclosed a badge that she will be wearing for the Rio Games.

Karmakar earlier created history by becoming the first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for the Olympics, scoring 14.833 to finish with a gold medal in the women's vaults finals. Not just that, she is also the first Indian gymnast participating in Olympics in 52 years.
