New Delhi: Kerala Industry and Sports Minister EP Jayarajan on Saturday paid a unique tribute to Muhammad Ali.

The senior CPI-M leader was topic of discussion on social media networks after he described the legendary boxer as an eminent sports personality of Kerala.

"Ali was an eminent sports personality of Kerala and is one who has won a gold medal thereby raising Kerala's position in the world," he told a local TV channel in Thiruvananthapuram when asked for a comment.

The show's anchor was quick to cut the audio as the minister was on the verge of uttering his next sentence.

Social media users had a field day thanks to this faux pas by Jayarajan.

There was another similar instance on Twitter when an Indian girl Anadita Patel tweeted that Ali was a better footballer than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Patel later clarified stating that she was confused between Ali and legendary Brazil footballer Pele.
