Imphal: The Manipur Government has handed over 336.93 acres to the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for construction of a National Sports University.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh handed over the land at Yaithibi khunou in Manipur's Thoubal district yesterday during a simple ceremony attended by M Prithiviraj Singh, state Parliamentary Secretary Youth Affairs and Sports, MLA P Brojen, Chief Secretary and representatives from the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, a government release said on Friday.
A team headed by the Secretary Sports, Government of India, visited Manipur in August, 2014 and had identified the proposed site for establishment of the National Sports University at Yaithibi Khunou in the Thoubal district of Manipur, the release said.
The state government decided to provide approximately 400 acres of land at keeping in mind the scope for the future expansion of the university, the release added.
