New Delhi: Usain Bolt, the fastest man on earth trumped his great American rival and season's unbeaten Justin Gatlin to defend his World 100 metres title on Sunday at Bird's Nest, in Beijing.

The 29-year-old Jamaican, who seemed to struggle with his start in the semi-final, produced a good start in the final to clock 9.79sec and beat Gatlin by 0.01sec to title.

With the win, the back-to-back Olympic champion has increased his world titles to nine over 100m, 200m and the 4x100m relay.

Bolt, who celebrated his 29th birthday with the Jamaican team in Beijing on Friday, will also compete in the 200m event.
