New Delhi: In a tragic vault routine at 2016 Rio Olympics, French gymnast Samir Ait Said broke his leg during men’s qualifications on Saturday.

Said, 26, was competing in the qualification of the Men's Vault when he landed awkwardly, breaking his left leg below the knee.

The cracking noise was so loud it could be heard over the coverage.

Ait Said, who has taken home gold, silver and bronze medals from the European Championships since 2010, was set to also compete in the horizontal bars, the parallel bars, the rings, the pommel horse, the floor exercise and the individual and team all-arounds, but it’s unclear at the moment if that will be possible.
