Chennai: Girls once again outperformed boys in the plus-two state board exams, results declared by the Tamil Nadu government here on Friday showed.

Out of the over 8.93 lakh students who appeared in the exams, the pass percentage of girls stood at 94.5 as against 89.3 per cent of boys.

The overall pass percentage this year was 92.1, which was marginally higher than last year`s figures.

On Thursday, the School Education Department announced its decision to scrap the ranking system based on the marks scored to reduce the stress levels of students.

According to the government, 1,171 students secured over 1,180 marks out a maximum of 1,200 marks.

A total of 1,183 schools, including 292 government schools, notched up 100 per cent pass figures.

Virdhunagar heads the districts with pass percentage of 97.85. The four districts that follow are Ramanathapuram, Erode, Tuticorin and Namakkal.
