Acid attack on Urdu poet for calling out miscreants harassing school girls

FIROZABAD: Urdu poet Hashim Firozabadi was on Saturday attacked with acid and beaten up by miscreants after he allegedly confronted them for sexually harassing school girls. 

Recalling the incident, Hashim said that he was approached by a parent who complained that his daughters were being regularly harassed by some miscreants.

"A man came to me and said he won't send his daughters to school as they're regularly molested by some miscreants who also make obscene phone calls to them. He was scared to go to the police and asked me to talk to the miscreants. It's a result of my attempt," Hashim said.

Police said that an FIR has been registered in the case. The poet was also made to undergo a medical examination. "We'll arrest culprits soon," the police assured.
