UP assembly election results 2022: Who is leading, trailing in Gorakhpur, Karhal, Jaswant Nagar, Sirathu, Kunda and other seats in UP?

NEW DELHI: The ruling BJP has taken a massive lead in over 180 seats as the counting of votes for the assembly elections 2022 began on Thursday. After initial rounds of counting, Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party was leading in 95 seats as compared to the ruling BJP.

Among those who were leading included Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav from Karhal, Shivpal Yadav from Jaswant Nagar, and Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya from Sirathu.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav was leading from Karhal constituency of Uttar Pradesh, according to initial poll trends. Yadav has secured 7,298 votes so far while his nearest rival Union Minister SP Singh Baghel has got 504 votes, according to the Election Commission. The Karhal seat is considered a stronghold of the SP.

According to the available trends, CM Yogi Adityanath was racing ahead in Gorakhpur. CM Adityanath is fighting his first assembly election after being the MP of the area for two decades. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has pitted Subhavati Shukla, a homemaker and the widow of late BJP leader Upendra Dutt Shukla, against CM Yogi.

Ajay Kumar Lallu of INC is trailing in Tamkuhi Raj. He is the sitting MLA from the seat and one of the seven Congress MLAs who had won in the 2017 UP Assembly elections.

BJP’s Alka Singh is leading in the Sandila Assembly constituency, as per Election Commission. UP Cabinet minister Brajesh Pathak is leading from Lucknow Cantt seat. Brajesh Pathak is the Law Minister in the Yogi Adityanath government and sitting MLA from the Lucknow Central Assembly seat. Aditi Singh is leading in Rae Bareli. She is the sitting MLA from Raebareli Sadar, a seat she had contested and won on a Congress ticket in 2017. 

Counting of votes for the 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh began on Thursday morning with three-layer security in place and cameras installed at all counting centres. In the initial rounds, postal ballots were counted. According to early trends available from 274 constituencies, the BJP was leading in 170 and the SP in 95 seats.

The BSP and the Congress were leading in five and four seats, respectively. Jansatta Dal candidate Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya was ahead in the Kunda seat.

All the exit polls have predicted a BJP win in the state. According to the official figure of EC available for 82 seats, the BJP is leading in 48, while the SP is leading in 24, Apna Dal in four and the RLD and the Congress were ahead in two each.
