LUCKNOW: At least 22 people have been arrested for cheating during the constable recruitment examination being conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Police Public Services Commission, reports said on Tuesday.

According to ANI, the arrests have been made in Meerut by the Special Task Force (STF) of the UP Police.

A large number of mobile phones, cash and other materials, including electronic devices, have also been seized from those arrested by the UP STF.

The UP Police had on Monday picked up three men in Allahabad for using unfair means during the constable recruitment exam.

The three men in question men were planning to send pictures of the question paper to solvers while sitting in the examination hall, the authorities claimed.

The solvers would then send the answers through a spy mike. The solvers had allegedly charged Rs 5 lakh from each candidate.

''The modus operandi was that one person sitting in the exam will immediately send the picture of question paper to solvers, who will then provide answers through spy mike. Prima facie, the solvers charge Rs 5 lakh per candidate,'' Nitin Tiwari, SSP Allahabad, had told ANI.

The STF, which arrested the three men, also recovered Rs 4 lakh and identity cards of 12 persons from their possession, according to media reports.

The report also claimed that some more persons were arrested by the STF in Gorakhpur in this connection.

The constable recruitment exam, which is being held at 860 centres across 56 districts, will fill up 41,520 vacant posts in the state police.

Over 23 lakh candidates had applied for it.

In order to prevent cheating during the examination, the authorities have put in place strict measures. They have implemented a dress code for the candidates and restricted them wearing shoes, heels, flowers or heavy jewellery.

The constable recruitment examination started at 10 am today.
