Washington: Coalition forces were "probably" involved in the deaths of numerous civilians during recent bombings in west Mosul, the head of the anti-IS coalition in Baghdad said on Tuesday.

"We probably had a role in those casualties," US General Stephen Townsend, commander of Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve, told reporters in a phone briefing from Baghdad.

"A general officer has been appointed to lead investigations" into the deadly March 17 strike, Townsend added.
