Nepal bus accident: Death toll rises to 25

The death toll in the bus accident in western Nepal has climbed to 25 today.

Kathmandu: The death toll in the bus accident in western Nepal has climbed to 25 today.

The bus, carrying 60 people, had veered off the road and plunged down about 200 metres from a highway yesterday in western Nepal.

Twenty-five people have died and more than 40 injured, the Himalayan Times reported.

The accident took place in Jajarkot district when the bus, passing through rough terrain, skidded off the road and plunged down.

The identities of 15 victims have been established so far while other deceased are yet to be identified, police said. Police said the bus was heading towards Khara from Khalanga when the incident occurred at Dhangaredanda.

Nepal Army and Nepal Police personnel were deputed for the rescue operation yesterday.

The rescue operation was conducted at the accident site using night-vision helicopter immediately after the instruction of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra

Nidhi, according to the Spokesperson at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), Bal Krishna Panthi.

The injured have been admitted at the District Hospital in Jajarkot.

DSP Bhabesh Rimal had said the accident might have occurred due to over-speeding.
