The Congress party has hit out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Raja Singh, who claimed that the name of Hyderabad would be changed to Bhagyanagar if the saffron party wins Telangana Assembly elections 2019. Senior Congress leader Renuka Chaudhary suggested that the BJP MLA should get his own name changed.
Speaking to news agency ANI, the Congress leader said that she was a proud Hyderabadi and people of the city would not tolerate if anyone tries to play with their sentiments.
Speaking in Hindi, Renuka Chaudhary said, “What does he think? Does he think that giving such dialogues would fetch him votes? I am a Hyderabadi and we proudly say that we are Hyderabadis.”

“Who is he to change the name? He should go and change his name, nobody will object. If he tries to change the identity and the name of the city, it would trouble Singh ji a lot,” she further said.
Raja Singh, BJP MLA from Goshamahal Assembly constituency, had said that name of Hyderabad would be changed to Bhagyanagar if his party is voted to power in Telangana in the Assembly elections. He had also said that names of Secunderabad and Karimnagar would also be changed.
Speaking to news agency ANI, the MLA said, “Earlier, Hyderabad was Bhagyanagar and in 1590 Quli Qutub Shah came to Hyderabad, he changed Bhagyanagar to Hyderabad. At that time many Hindus were attacked, many temples destroyed. We are planning to rename Hyderabad.”
“In Telangana, BJP will win in majority and then our first aim will be developing the state and the second objective will be renaming Hyderabad as Bhagyanagar. We will also change the names of Secunderabad and Karimnagar.
This comes just days after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath renamed Allahabad as Prayag Raj. Later during Deepotsav 2018 celebrations in Ayodhya, he announced that Faizabad district will be known as Ayodhya.
