Mumbai Police denies giving death threat information to Rushdie

Jaipur: There seems to be no end to the Salman Rushdie saga. A day after the noted author claimed that he had received inputs from Mumbai and Rajasthan police that paid assassins were on their way to eliminate him, security agencies have come with different versions on the same matter. The controversial author decided to skip the Jaipur Literature Festival due to death threats by the Mumbai mafia, alleged that he was informed by the Mumbai and Rajasthan police about the same. While Mumbai police claims that it did not forward any such alert to Rushdie or to the centre, Rajasthan Home Secretary reportedly got the information from the Centre and went ahead and informed the organizers of the Lit Fest. The Booker prize winning novelist declared in a statement, on Friday, that he would not attend the Jaipur Literature Festival because he has been informed by intelligence sources in Maharashtra and Rajasthan that "paid assassins from Mumbai underworld might be on their way to eliminate" him.
