GoAir inks $7.7 billion deal with Airbus for 72 A320neos

Hampshire: Indian low-cost airline GoAir signalled Tuesday its intention to buy 72 Airbus A320neos worth $7.7 billion at list prices, in a major announcement at the Farnborough airshow.

The order, worth the equivalent of 6.9 billion euros, takes GoAir`s total order to 144 of the single-aisle fuel-efficient airplanes, Airbus said in a statement.

"The new A320neo provide us the competitive edge to achieve our growth targets and help us strengthening our presence in the wider region," said GoAir CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer on the second day of the airshow held near London.

"It also reaffirms GoAir`s commitment to deliver the most modern, comfortable and excellent air travel experience to all customers as well as to strengthen the sustained positive growth and business expansion of the company.

"The new aircraft will help us in unlocking new domestic routes while providing a springboard for continued international network expansion in the years to come."

Airlines tend to command steep discounts on such large purchases.
