Heath Ledger`s ex to play Marilyn Monroe in film

London: Actress Michelle Williams, the ex-fiance of actor Heath Ledger has beat off competition from Scarlett Johannson and Lindsay Lohan to take on the role of Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe.The `Brokeback Mountain` star who is bringing up her three-year-old daughter with Ledger, Mathilda Rose, has been chosen to play the blonde pin-up in the new movie `My Week With Marilyn`, reported a news website.

Director Simon Curtis and producer David Parfitt picked the 29-year-old to play Monroe, but are still waiting for the Oscar-nominated star to agree. The film will document Monroe`s time filming the 1957 movie `The Prince and The Showgirl` with Laurence Olivier and is based on a diary kept by the film`s assistant director Colin Clarke. `My Week With Marilyn` is due to begin shooting in London in June next year.
