Los Angeles: "Clash of the Titans," a remake of the 1981 cult classic, is a titan on the video charts.The action movie, which earned more than $163 million at the North American box office, easily topped the national sales, Blu-ray sales and rental charts its first week out, according to data issued Wednesday for the week ended August 1
Some 44 percent of DVD sales were in the Blu-ray Disc format. The only other chart-topper this year with a higher percentage was "Avatar," with 49%. James Cameron`s monster hit ranked No. 4 on the current Blu-ray sales chart, despite being in release since April.
"Clash`s" No. 1 debut on trade publication Home Media Magazine`s rental chart for the week also showed its strong rental appeal. It won`t be available at rental kiosks or through Netflix for another month.
"Clash" also bowed at No. 1 on the tracking firm Nielsen VideoScan`s DVD sales chart, with the direct-to-video "Batman: Under the Red Hood" coming in at No. 2. The Batman title also took the No. 2 spot on Nielsen`s Blu-ray chart.
The sci-fi actioner "Repo Men," starring Jude Law and Forest Whitaker, debuted at No. 3 on the DVD, Blu-ray and rental charts. The previous week`s top title, "Cop Out," fell to No. 2 on the rental chart and No. 4 on the DVD chart.
