 Amitabh’s comment

  July  26th,1982

-Puneet Issar  one of the actors of the movie “Coolie” hit Bachchan by mistake on his solar plexus during the shooting of  the movie  at the University Campus in Bangalore on 26th July 1982.

-Bachchan, who wanted to do that shot himself rather than use a duplicate, had to fall on a table and then roll on to the ground.

-But as he jumped towards the table, the corner of the table hit his abdomen leading to a rupture in his spleen causing a lot of blood loss.

-Bachchan was brought to the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai.

-A splenectomy took place and the actor remained critically ill for a while.

-Doctors attending to him were on 24-hour call. Bachchan, in fact, clinically died for eleven minutes.

- In a last ditch attempt to revive him, the doctors plunged an adrenaline injection into his heart and hoped that he would return.

-It was the adrenaline injection which brought him back.

-He started recovering after that.

“See, I never knew that I was going to die. I knew that there was something very wrong with me but I never knew that I was going to die. “

“And the entire period when I was seemingly gone, when I was struggling for life, I was in a state of coma.”

“I was unconscious. That was the difficult period for my family. It was easy for me because I was oblivious.”

“The difficult period for me started after I got okay. When you're told what you've been through. And it's not enough that you've been told. The worst phase is when you discover that what they have told you is, in fact, true.”

 June 1984

-However he fell prey to a disease called as “Myasthenia Gravis” which strucked him immediately after the accident in 1982.

- Myasthenia Gravis is a neuromuscular ailment that causes muscle weakness and fatigue. In Bachchan’s case it happened primarily because of the heavy intake of medicines after the accident.

-He recovered soon and the disease is in remission state.

-At this time he became pessimistic, expressing concern with how a new film would be received and stated before every release,

"Yeh film to flop hogi!"

 November 28th , 2005

He complained of a stomach ache.

To begin with, he was taken to the Escorts Heart Institute in New Delhi after being rushed there from Lucknow where he fell ill.

-Initially he thought it was a gastro problem but ended up in Mumbai's Leelavati Hospital with diverticulitis of the small intestine.

-On November 30, 2005 Amitabh was operated on for diverticulitis of the small intestine.

-. In this disease, in the patients the walls of the large or the small intestine tend to get weaker leading to an inflammation.

-It was the reoccurrence of his earlier problem.

-He stayed at the hospital for two months.

-

October11th, 2008

-Bachchan landed back in hospital after complaining of stomach ache.

-He was suspected to be suffering from incisional hernia, a recurring problem that has been troubling him since the near-fatal accident on the sets of “Coolie” in 1982.

- He was operated for this problem.

-He was discharged on October 17th 2008.

-

 April 25th 2010.

-He was suffering from liver cirrhosis which he contracted after a blood transfusion after his accident in 1982.

- It was diagnosed in 2000-2002.

- Amitabh Bachchan declared about this problem in 2010.

-Cirrhosis impairs the liver's ability to control infections and process nutrients and drugs.

- He is still suffering.

“Now since the liver and any ailment associated with it is extremely sensitive, I have to be under constant vigil and monitoring.”

- “Some of them are at an extreme stage of repair and I may have to go under the knife sooner rather than later.”

 February 11th 2012

-He complained about abdominal pain.

--He was operated at Seven Hills Hospital for three hours.

-Bachchan had undergone surgery for bilateral inguinal hernia, a condition caused by protrusion of tissues through the abdominal wall.

-The operation was successful.

-His condition was said to be stable.

-"A day that brings you to the brink of wellness and pushes you back into the well of uneasy health...

-“The body shall dictate always... Cure can be distasteful till it begins to work till that happens; your faith in it diminishes by the minute.”

-“All Izzz Well! “

 February 16th 2012

-He again complained of pain in the stomach.

-He was operated on February 11th 2012.

- He is still at the hospital.

"I seek forgiveness... I will not be detailing any more... Some fresh medical issues have come up, and I need to concentrate on the treatment now."`

February 20th 2012

Doctors decide against the third surgery. Big B shows improvement.

To be discharged any day now.

“Most of the repair is done by the body itself ... marvelous piece of machinery .. which is why you respect its maker so much.”
