Washington: Steven Spielberg, who has made a number of pictures set in Europe, believes that his understanding of history is closer to the European ideal than of his native USA.
The 65-year-old director, whose latest World War I movie ‘War Horse’ was also based in Europe, thinks that Europeans are more in touch with their history than his fellow Americans are.
“I think my regard for history is more of a European regard for history. Social media has taken over in America to such an extreme that to get my own kids to look back a week in their history is a miracle, let alone 100 years. Europe is closer to history,” Contactmusic quoted him as telling BANG Showbiz.
“I think that I have more proximity to the Europeans in that way,” he said.
