'I felt pretty sleepy', the Professor is said to have joked when asked about his reaction on hearing the news of the Nobel Prize in Economics, The Guardian reports.

Prof. Angus Deaton was probably in Princeton and it was about 7:30 a.m. when the announcements were made, adds The Guardian.
However, the Professor said he was 'delighted' to have won the award.
He also said, he knew his name had appeared on the list of possible winners and it was great to hear the news from his friends in the committee.

Prof. Deaton on Monday was conferred with the prestigious Nobel Prize in Economics for his study in the field of consumption, poverty and welfare.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said it honoured the Professor for his findings on three main questions:
- How consumers distribute their spending among different goods?
- How much of society’s income is spent and how much is saved?
- How to best measure and analyze welfare and poverty?
