India vs Australia, 1st Test: Unsurprised Virender Sehwag had warned Virat Kohli & Co of Pune collapse well in advance

In reply to Australia's first innings total of 260, India were in a spot at 94 for three. But nobody would have thought the top-ranked side will end at 105 all out.

India vs Australia, 1st Test: Unsurprised Virender Sehwag had warned Virat Kohli & Co of Pune collapse well in advance

New Delhi: On Friday, cricket world witnessed one of the worst ever collapse as India lost seven wickets in a span of 48 balls. In reply to Australia's first innings total of 260, India were in a spot at 94 for three. But nobody would have thought the top-ranked side will end at 105 all out.

But one person predicted such a collapse well in advance, a couple of days before the start of the India-Australia first Test in Pune. And that person was none other than Virender Sehwag, the cricketer-turn-sage.

During a sports themed literary festival named ‘Sportale’, the former Indian opener warned the Indian team referring to the famous 'law of averages'.

Sehwag stated the obvious, rightly. Indian team under Virat Kohli is yet to be tested fully. He didn't discredit the achievement of the current team, but was astute to base his empirical deduction in the fact that their 'fantastic' achievement was achieved only in nine Test before the start of the Australia series.

“This team has been playing fantastic cricket. They have won 8 of their last 9 Tests and that is a great achievement. But the law of averages catches up with every team and in my reading, there will be a Test in this series where the bowling might not fire or the batsmen will slip up,” Sehwag said.

After losing the toss on a rank turner, India did well to restrict the Aussies at 205 for nine, but a brilliant counter attack from Mitchell Starc (61 off 63) stretched the total to a respectable 260.

India's response was poor to say the least. The innings lasted mere 40.1 overs, which included a duck for Kohli, who was in an imperious form arriving in Pune.

At Stumps on Day 2, Australia have added another 143 runs to their first innings lead of 155 runs to have a healthy lead of 298 runs. Certainly not a pretty side for the home side, which has made winning their second nature in the last few months.
