Virat Kohli's comparison with Donald Trump a 'big compliment': Yuvraj Singh

New Delhi: Australian media has been after Virat Kohli since the beginning of the ongoing India – Australia Test series, comparing the Indian captain earlier with animals and now with US President Donald Trump. However, fellow teammate and close friend Yuvraj Singh retorted the Australian Daily's claims saying comparison with President Trump is only a compliment for the Indian skipper.

Speaking to India Today, Yuvraj said, "It's a big compliment for Virat if Aussie media is comparing him with Trump. It means he is the best," on the sidelines of a launch event in New Delhi.

While Yuvi might be the latest one to express his opinion on the matter, Cheteshwar Pujara and former Australian captain Michael Clarke were also seen taking Kohli's sides on the subject.

"It's really sad to hear such comments. We fully support Virat and he is one of the great ambassadors of the game," Pujara said at a press conference ahead of Dharamsala Test.

"The focus has shifted somewhere else. We are focussed on the game and he is a great leader. We are looking forward to the next game rather than worrying about anything else," he had added.

"Comparing Virat Kohli with Donald Trump - what a load of shit s that. What Virat did, even Smith would have. I could just laugh about the Trump thing (comparison). I find it quite funny and am sure Virat will also find it quite funny," Clarke was quoted saying by India Today.

"Bear in mind, I love Kohli and the Australian public love him. It's just two or three reporters who are trying to tarnish him

"I always somehow find an Australian in him the way he plays and I absolutely love how he accepts challenges. It's just two or three reporters who are trying to tarnish him but Virat shouldn't be bothered," he further said.

Australian news daily 'The Daily Telegraph' had compared Kohli to US President Donald Trump for his relationship with media. Earlier, the same Australian newspaper had accused him of hurling an an energy drink bottle towards an Australian official after entering the dressing room following his dismissal in the Bengaluru Test.

The news article was published after Virat had accused few Australian players of insulting Indian cricket team's physio.

"They (four-five of them) started taking Patrick's name. I don't know why. He's our physio. His job is to treat me. I don't find the reason behind it. I could not understand. You must ask why they have started taking his name," said Kohli after the Ranchi Test ended in a draw.

Steve Smith, however, rubbished his counterpart's claims saying "It was a bit disappointing. I didn't actually do anything. Virat was having a go at me saying I was disrespecting Patrick Farhart. It was probably the exact opposite."
