New Delhi: The social networking site Facebook is shutting down on May 1, to the shock and dismay of users across the world.

Mark Zuckerberg, the chairman and chief executive officer of Facebook announced recently that the social networking site is not going to continue and the company is beginning the process of closing it down soon, ending on May 1.

Though the company is not going in losses, Zuckerberg said that this move was being undertaken for the “larger good of the people”. He also added that he would like to invest in the luxury travel business.

He said that official mail to all the users would be rolled out by the end of this week, starting with US citizens. The news came as a shock to techies and social media users across the world as Facebook has only recently ventured into e-retail business. After the news was telecast, many young boys and girls have started to despair and there has been a sharp increase in the number of youngsters visiting psychological counsellers seeking help as to how they will be able to retain their hundreds of friends in real life.

Also, many gaming companies have opposed the news and sent a petition to Mark Zuckerberg asking him to roll back the decision as it would affect their login systems directly.

After Orkut closed down, the decision to shut down Facebook has met with shock and dismay all over the world and it seems that with this shut down comes the end of an era in the digital world.
