New Delhi: Popular Haryanvi singer Sapna Choudhary reportedly attempted suicide over online harassment. According to The Hindu, Sapna, who was earlier accused of hurting the sentiments of a particular community through a song performed on stage show claimed that she was being harassed online.

The singer tried to commit suicide at her residence on Sunday morning, however, she is now stable.

The report states that Sapna wrote a note where a man named Satpal Tanwar has been named for abetting her suicide. The report quotes police as saying that Satpal ran an online campaign against the singer which drove her to end her life.

Sapna had sung a song during one of her stage performances early this year after which a complaint was filed by Satpal against her. She was accused of hurting the sentiments of a particular caste as the lyrics of the song had objectionable content.

However, the report states that in her purported suicide note, she also expressed her grievance over the song 'Ragini' which she claimed had been sung by other singers too.

The 21-year-old singer liver with her mother and brother in Chhawla where her family members found her health in bad shape as she was vomiting continuously.

The Hindu quotes Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Surender Kumar as saying, “When they asked her, she told them that she had consumed rat poison. The family then rushed her to Cliffton Hospital in Chhawla in south-west Delhi where she is currently admitted. The family informed us around 8-30 a.m. after which we started our probe,”

The matter is currently under investigation.
