Thiruvananthapuram: Renowned Sri Lankan woman filmmaker Sumitra Peries, who paved the way for breaking the monopoly of male domination in Sinhalese cinema, will deliver this year's Aravindan Memorial Lecture at the 19th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), which got underway here yesterday.

The lecture is organised on the sidelines of the movie gala every year in memory of iconic director-script writer G Aravindan, who introduced an unorthodox style of filmmaking and received several recognitions, including many national and state awards.

Peries, known for films like 'Gahanu Lamai' (1978), 'Ganga Addara' (1980) and 'Loku Duwa' (1994), will lecture on the topic "Let there Be Light" on December 16 here, according to the Kerala Chalachitra Academy, organisers of the festival.

Eminent film personalities like Marco Bellocchio, Souleymane Cisse, Elyes Beccar and Raoul Peck were among those who delivered the lecture in previous years.
