Mumbai: Remember Achala Sachdev who played Balraj Sahni’s wife in ‘Waqt’ and lit the silver screen with her coyness as Balraj crooned ‘Ae Meri Zohra Jabeen’? Yes, the yesteryears actress who acted in over 250 movies and was associated with films like ‘Chandni’ and ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ has been left alone to fend for herself, battling with sickness and old age.
Apparently, Achala has been bedridden for the last three months at a Pune based hospital and none from the film industry have bothered to inquire about her deteriorating health. Achala broken her left leg three-and-a-half months ago and since then, she is being treated at the Poona Hospital and Research Centre. Things became complicated when an MRI scan revealed a clot in the artery close to the heart, which entered the brain vessels after fragmenting into smaller clots. Rajeev Nanda, a friend of Achala has been calling people in the industry about her health. Achala’s son, Jyotin, is a business consultant who lives in the US and her daughter lives in Mumbai. Sadly, both children are not in touch with their mother.
