Indian cinema losing its Indianness: Mahesh Bhatt

Chandigarh: The roots of Indian cinema lie in regional films, feels producer-director Mahesh Bhatt.

"Indian cinema is losing its Indianness as it is getting disconnected from its roots and by connecting with roots of Punjab, India cinema will become richer," said Bhatt, who was here to launch a Punjabi production house.

"All regions (of the country) have extra ordinary filmmakers. Young people from Punjab should be self sufficient to be able to exist in their own region... Of course, they can work in Hindi cinema if they choose," he added.

Bhatt and scriptwriter Shagufta Rafique launched a new film 'Dushman', to be produced by a city-based company 'Yellow Stone Productions Pvt Ltd.'

"My journey here will make me richer," said Bhatt, adding 'Dushman', which is about a girl and a boy from Indian and Pakistani parts of Punjab, will be made under his guidance.
