Riya Sen's outburst on 'delayed' response of firemen irks Shiv Sena

Mumbai: Slamming Bollywood actress Riya Sena for her tweets saying that she was "ashamed" of Mumbai, Shiv Sena today said the city is respected by people as it gives shelter to everyone.

A fire had broke out at her twin apartments in Juhu on Sunday following which the 34-year-old actress vented her anger on the microblogging site Twitter as the firemen reportedly failed to reach her house in time.

"Our buildings on fire! We've lost two of our flats! And the fire engine took an hour to arrive! Shame on this country!" she had tweeted.

In its editorial in party mouthpiece 'Saamana' today, Sena said Riya and her mother Moon Moon Sen spend most of their time in Mumbai, despite the latter being a Trinamool Congress MP from West Bengal's Bankura Lok Sabha constituency.

"After all Mumbai is Mumbai. This city is a home for many and provides employment to people from diverse backgrounds and gives security to people. Thus, everyone respects Mumbai.

There are many who do not even have a fan in their homes and their slums are many a times get destroyed in fire. Even then we have never heard them saying they are ashamed of this city," the editorial said.

Sena said the actress is not a special one and is one of many of her ilk who come to Mumbai to earn living.

"No one has ever asked Riya how long she has been in Mumbai and in what films she has worked in. There are many like her who come to the city and survive on the back of their hardwork.

Everyone is riddled with problems, but nobody says they are ashamed of Mumbai only because they are facing some problem," the Sena said.

Referring to a major blaze in a Kolkata hospital recently in which around 100 people were killed, Sena said nobody then said they are ashamed of that city.

"We too are sad that her house was burnt in fire. What caused the delay in firemen reaching the site in time is a matter of investigation. But her comments are shocking," Sena said.
