Bollywood 2015: Films that turned out to be blockbusters

Mumbai: Bollywood may not have had a great start, but 2015 is turning out to be a historic one for the film fraternity.

Films such as ‘Piku’, ‘Dum Lagake Haisha’, ‘NH 10’ proved that content alone could make films popular. These films did reasonably well at the Box Office and thus contributed to the success stories of the year so far.

However, it was Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan’s ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ that gave Bollwyood its first Rs 100 crore film of the year. Directed by Aanand L Rai, the sequel to 2011 blockbuster ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, testified the fact that films sans superstars too could win hearts of the audiences.

What followed next was a complete surprise. Remo D’Souza’s ‘ABCD 2’, a sequel to ‘ABCD- Any Body Can Dance’ starring Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor impressed one and all.

And then arrived ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, a film which stole millions of hearts not just in India but across the oceans. Interestingly, this Salman Khan starrer stuck an emotional chord with people on the other side of the Indian border- Pakistan – too! The film is set to reach the Rs 500 crore mark at the Box Office.

Last but not the least- SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali has minted over Rs 500 crore worldwide. Interestingly, he Hindi version of the film has made Rs 100 crore business, which is perhaps a history in itself.
