Los Angeles: Actor-singer David Bowie will bring his iconic character from 1976's cult film "The Man Who Fell to Earth" for an upcoming play "Lazarus".

The actor has co-writen the play and composed music for the upcoming stage production, reported Aceshowbiz.

Bowie, 68, played Thomas Jerome Newton, who crash-lands on Earth while seeking water to save his dying home planet, in the classic Nicolas Roeg movie.

"Lazarus" is scheduled to debut at the New York Theater Workshop. Instead of reprising his role, Bowie co-wrote the play along with Tony-winning playwright Enda Walsh ("Once") based on Walter Tevis' 1963 novel that inspired the movie version. Avant-garde Belgian director Ivo van Hove will helm the stage musical.
