My films talk about traditions: Majumder

Bengali filmmaker Tarun Majumder says his films revolve around human values.

Kolkata: Bengali filmmaker Tarun Majumder says his films revolve around human values.

"I am a strong believer in retaining human values. These are things which won't change. All my films celebrate these values and the joint family system," said Majumder here while being felicitated by West Bengal Film Journalists Association to mark the 50th year of his film making.

The thespian is now busy with his latest "Bhalobasar Bari".

Majumder started his journey with his film "Ektuku Basa" with Dadasaheb Saheb Phalke awardee Soumitro Chatterjee in the lead in 1965.

"Balika Bodhu" was directed by him in 1967. His other hits are "Sriman Prithiviraj", "Ganadevata" and "Dadar Kirti".

"I will never deflect from my own gharana of films which talk about our traditions, our Bengaliness - I will always use Rabindra sangeet in my films. I have nothing against other genres but we must be rooted in our art works," he told PTI.

Madhabi Mukherjee, who donned the role of 'Charulata' in Satyajit Ray's movie of the same name, said "Sansar Simantey" by Majumder was her favourite film.

"Tanubabu, Manikda, Tapanda (Tarun Majumder, Satyajit Ray and Tapan Sinha in that order) represent an era which I have gone through. I regret this era will never revisit us," she said at the function.
