Music connects the world: Amjad Ali Khan

Mangaluru: Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan says music has the power to connected the world as it is a realisation of God, art and culture.

Khan, 69, received the Alva's Virasat 2015 award at a function held at the Alva's college campus at Moodbidri, near here, last evening.

"Though we had achieved a lot in the field of education in the 21st century, people are still fighting with each other in the name of religion which was unfortunate," he said.

"Music had the capability to make people feel that they were connected with every soul and religion. We then feel that we have a common God and a common race. Music is a universal language that transcends boundaries and bonds people from all corners of the world," he added.

State Forests Minister and in-charge of Dakshina Kannada district B Ramanath Rai, who inaugurated the Virasat event, described it as a unique programme which presented the various art and cultural forms of the country in an innovative way.

Subhalakshmi Khan, wife of Amjad Ali was also present in the event.
