Chamari Athapathu is a trailblazer in Sri Lankan women’s cricket. Having made her international debut in 2009, the left-handed opener has gradually turned out to be the guiding force for Sri Lanka in world cricket and an inspiration among the women in the Island nation. She is also the first Sri Lankan woman to play franchise cricket overseas. Athapathu is Sri Lanka’s top run-getter in T20Is and ODIs too with 3326 runs and 3713 runs respectively. In the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, Athapathu will lead Sri Lanka.
