Playing on a sponsor`s exemption courtesy good friend and practice partner Tiger Woods, the Orlando-based Indian, who led the pack after the opening round, totals one-under 209 in three rounds.
It was a largely uneventful day for Atwal and he closed the front nine even-par after slotting one birdie against a bogey.
Atwal failed to fetch any birdie in the back nine and ended up dropping a stroke on the 11th hole to round off another over-par day.
Englishman Justin Rose led by a formidable four strokes after 67 in the third round left 10-under 200 overall.
Swede Carl Pettersson (65) and Charlie Wi (70) occupied the second spot.
