Washington, April 01: The childhood home of guitar legend Jimi Hendrix has been demolished following a ruling by the local authorities of Renton.
Despite an eight-year USD 100,000-effort by a Seattle real-estate investor Pete Sikov, a Hendrix devotee, the historic structure is gone, reported Seattle Times.
The dilapidated structure where Hendrix first started playing his guitar, a single stringed `ukulele`, was brought down by a demolition crew yesterday.
"This is where he first discovered music. It`s all a shame, too bad, no city body stepped up to the plate to save the place Jimi lived in. Let`s be blunt; he is the most famous guy to ever be born in the city of Seattle," said Charles R Cross, author of the Hendrix biography `Room Full of Mirrors`.
Sikov said that he now plans to collect memorabilia from the demolished home and collect them safely for display purposes.
The "Purple Haze" singer, who died in 1970 following a drug overdose, is buried at Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery which is just across the street from his childhood home.
That`s where his fans still flock to his memorial and leave everything from guitar, notes to flowers.
