Tom Cruise to replace Hugh Jackman as Van Helsing

London: `Top Gun` actor Tom Cruise will replace Hugh Jackman of `X-Men` fame as the title character in the new Van Helsing movie.

Jackman, 43, starred in the ficitional role of vigilante monster hunter Gabriel Van Helsing in the 2004 film but Cruise will taking over in a "re-imagining" of the franchise, reported Femalefirst. The new script will be written by `Transformers` screenwriting duo, Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci who have signed a two-year contract with the Universal Studios bosses and Cruise is already attached to star and produce the film. The original film featured `Underworld` actress Kate Beckinsale, 38, but it is not known if she will star in the new movie. PTI
