Lok Sabha Elections 2024: 58 constituencies in 6 States and 2 Union Territories voted to decide the fate of 889 candidates in the 6th phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 on Saturday.  Despite hot weather in certain parts of the country, an approximate voter turnout of 59.82 per cent was recorded so far in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections on Saturday, according to the Election Commission of India.

West Bengal recorded the highest voter turnout, approximately 78.20 per cent so far and Jammu and Kashmir recorded the lowest, with 53.38 per cent recorded so far, as per the ECI.

The voter turnouts in the remaining States/UTs are Bihar - 54.68 per cent, Haryana - 59.36 per cent, Jharkhand - 63.27 per cent, NCT of Delhi - 56.04 per cent, Odisha - 60.97 per cent and Uttar Pradesh - 54.03 per cent.

Some prominent candidates included Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra and former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi. Bansuri Swaraj, Somnath Bharti, Manoj Tiwari, Kanhaiya Kumar, Dinesh Lal Yadav alias 'Nirahua', Dharmendra Yadav, Abhijit Gangopadhyay, Agnimitra Paul, Naveen Jindal, Raj Babbar, Deepender Singh Hooda, Kumari Selja and Aparajita Sarangia are among other prominent candidates in the fray.

42 assembly constituencies of the Odisha legislative assembly also went to polls simultaneously on Saturday.

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday reacted to PM Modi's 'looted Bihar' remark. Yadav said that the people of Bihar are not afraid of anyone.

"People of Bihar are not afraid of the people of Gujarat... The people of Bihar are not afraid of anyone, our Lord Krishna was born in jail. A 75-year-old man is threatening a 34-year-old youth that if you defeat us in the election, we will send you to jail...the public will decide," Yadav said.

While, PM Modi during his Public rally at Bihar's Karakat said, "NDA government will not spare those who looted Bihar. This is NDA's & Modi's guarantee. INDI alliance can do anything for their personal gains."

West Bengal recorded a high voter turnout at 16.64 per cent till 9 am while Uttar Pradesh also experienced a high voter turnout at 12.33 per cent. Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Strict Surveillance In Place For Phase 6 Voting 

A total of 2222 flying squads, 2295 static surveillance teams, 819 video surveillance teams and 569 video viewing teams are keeping surveillance round the clock to deal with any form of inducement of voters strictly and swiftly.
According to the ECI, a total of 257 international Border check posts and 927 inter-state border check posts are keeping strict vigil on any illicit flow of liquor, drugs, cash and freebies. Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Voting To Continue Amid Hot Weather

Concerned CEOs and State machinery have been directed to take adequate measures to manage the adverse impact of hot weather or rainfall wherever predicted. The ECI said that polling stations are ready to welcome the voters with ample shade, drinking water, ramps, toilets, and other basic facilities to ensure that polling takes place in a comfortable and secure environment. As per the ECI, over 11.13 crore voters, including 5.84 crore males, 5.29 crore females, and 5120 third-gender electors will decide the fate of 889 candidate's today.
