Missing Delhi Nizamuddin Dargah clerics return home from Pakistan, meet Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi: Two missing clerics from Delhi's famed Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah finally returned home from Pakistan on Monday, ending a tensed moment for the family members over their brief disappearance.

Soon after they landed from a flight from Karachi, the clerics went to meet External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj who had earlier alerted the Indian High Commission in Islamabad about their missing status.

Syed Asif Ali Nizami and his nephew Nazim Ali Nizami had gone missing under msyterious circusmtances in Pakistan, triggering panic in the family.

Both had left for Karachi on March 8 to meet their relatives.

Their disappearance had created a hue and cry in India, with media reports claiming that they were detained by the Pakistani authorities.

The clerics claimed that they were questioned by Pakistani authorities after a local Urdu daily 'Ummat' reported that they were agents of the Indian spy agency RAW.

However, they rubbised the allegations.

They were later released from custody.

"We had gone to meet my aunt who is 90 years old and lives in Karachi. My uncle met his sister after 26 long years," Nizami told reporters here.

"We went to Pakistan to spread the Nizammuddin Dargah`s message of peace and love. I often go to Pakistan but my uncle this time went their to meet his sister.

"But elements who are against peace and love have made false allegations against us. They claimed we had gone to Sind. But how can we go there when we did not have visa for Sind?

"I will keep going to Pakistan to spread love and peace," IANS quoted Nizami as saying.

Nizami's son Syed Sajid Ali told the media here that "They were allowed to go after the interrogators realised the charges were false."

Reacting to the incident, CPI leader D. Raja said: "There needs to be a proper investigation into all the revelations and the matter must be raised with the Pakistani government."

The clerics, however, refused to divulge details about their meeting with Sushma Swaraj.
