Jammu: Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has sanctioned nearly Rs 40 lakhs from the MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) funds for construction of a school building in Bandipora district of north Kashmir.

According to PTI, Sachin Tendulkar wrote a letter to the District Magistrate and the District Collector (Office of Mumbai Suburban District, District Planning Committee, Deependra Singh Kushwah) informing them of his decision to donate Rs 40 lakh for the construction of a school in north Kashmir.

In his letter, Tendulkar stated that the Imperial Educational Institute Drugmulla, which was established in 2007, had requested for funds and “the request must be scrutinised”.

The funds will be utilised for the construction of classrooms, laboratory, toilets and administrative block of the school.

Besides the construction of a school in Kashmir, Tendulkar has also sanctioned funds for construction and up-gradation of a school located in Sewri, south Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has thanked Sachin Tendulkar for sanctioning Rs 40 lakhs for a school in Kupwara district.

The J&K CM took to Twitter to thank Sachin.

"Thankful to @sachin_rt for using his MPLAD (MP Local Area Development) funds for the construction of a school building in Kashmir. Even off the field, he continues to inspire us all", Mehbooba tweeted.

The Imperial Educational Institute Drugmulla, for which Sachin has sanctioned the funds, was established in 2007.

It is the only school in the area up to class 10 and has around 1,000 students.

Sachin has so far sanctioned Rs 7.5 crore out of his MP Local Area Development for schools in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Andra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
