Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, passed away, Thursday, at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi due to multiple organ failure.

Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's funeral prayers and burial will take place in the evening at the Dara Shikoh Park in Bijbehara in Anantnag district. His body was brought to Srinagar in an Indian Air Force plane.

Contrary to earlier reports, PM Narendra Modi will arrive at Palam airport, not AIIMS, to pay last respects to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

People's Democratic Party's Rafiq Mir tells ANI that although no decision has been taken with regard to next CM of J&K, yet PDP president Mehbooba Mufti is the obvious choice. “Mehbooba ji has worked against all odds, she is the only choice,” says Mir.

Sayeed was admitted in a private ward in AIIMS on December 24 after he complained of fever and chest pain. He was put on ventilator on Wednesday after his condition had started to deteriorate.
