The Tour de France resumed its 13th stage under tightened security today despite the terror attack in Nice.

As per news website Nice-Matin.com, the 31-year-old French-Tunisian national who was behind the wheel of the truck that ploughed through Bastille Day revellers has been identified as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has condemned the attack in Nice as an act of "monstrous evil". In a message of condolence to President Francois Hollande released by the Kremlin, Putin said he was shocked by the "savagery and particular cynicism of this crime committed on your country`s national holiday," during Bastille Day celebrations.
News agency Reuters has quoted a source as saying that the gunman who drove a heavy truck into a crowd in Nice was a 31-year-old Franco-Tunisian born in Tunisia. The man was not on the watch list of French intelligence services, but was known to police in connection with common law crimes such as theft and violence, the source said.
Facebook on Friday turned on its Safety Check feature after a large truck mowed through a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice, France, killing over 80 people. According to CNET, it is the third time in nearly a month that the social networking giant has activated the tool.

News agency AFP has quoted authorities as saying that they have found identity papers belonging to a 31-year-old French-Tunisian citizen in the 19-tonne truck.
The truck driver who rammed his vehicle into a massive crowd in Nice fired a pistol several times before being shot dead by police, a local official said today. At the moment that he was shot dead by police, he had fired several times," said president of the region Christian Estrosi. A source close to the investigation said an "inactive" grenade was found inside the 19-tonne truck, as well as "several fake rifles".

India's External Affairs Ministry said there were no reports of any Indian being affected in the "terror" attack in Nice. The Indian embassy in Paris has opened a helpline number: +33-1-40507070.

US President Barack Obama strongly condemned what he said appeared to be a "horrific terrorist attack" in Nice. Offering assistance to investigate the attack which left at least 80 people dead, Obama vowed to help France "bring those responsible to justice."
Supporters of Islamic State celebrated on social media an attack in France. "The number of those killed had reached 62 french crusaders and sinful infidels in Nice, France.. God is great, God is great," read one tweet.

The United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned the "barbaric and cowardly terrorist attack" that took place during Bastille Day celebrations in the French city of Nice. The council unanimously adopted a French-drafted statement that "condemned in the strongest terms" the attack and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
The council reaffirmed that terrorism constitutes one of the most serious threats to world peace and security.
