Indore: On suggestion of a tantrik, a man yearning for a son abducted and killed a two-year-old boy for human sacrificial ritual, the police said on Monday.
The man, a school bus driver, and his two wives were arrested today for the horrendous crime, they said.
The incident occurred last month but came to light with the trio's arrest today.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Harinarayanchari Mishra said the bus driver, Dilip Bagri (36), and his wives were arrested from Gadhi Billoda village, about 40 kms from here.
Bagri has two daughters from his first marriage. After his wife died 12 years ago, he got married twice over a period of time as he wanted a son, he said.
His wish, however, remained unfulfilled as both women went childless, Mishra said.
He then approached a tantrik (sorcerer) who advised him to perform a human sacrifice ritual to get his wish fulfilled, the DIG said.
Acting on the advice, Bagri abducted the two-year-old boy living in his neighbourhood on June 9, and in the night he and his two wives pierced pins in the his body as a part of the ritual, he said.
When the child started crying, they covered his mouth and he died in the process but they continued with the ritual, Mishra said.
"The post-mortem report has revealed that the boy was killed brutally," he added.
The DIG said a search is on to nab the tantrik.
