Jabalpur: Youth workers of the Congress and the BJP clashed in Baldevbagh locality on Wednesday when the saffron activists tried to storm the Youth Congress' office with a portrait of cow in protest against the slaughtering of a calf in Kerala recently.

Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of BJP, had announced that they will worship a cow at the YC office in the area this evening, sources said.

As a group of BJYM workers, led by its city president Sonu Bajawani, broke the barricades put up by police at Aga Chowk, the activists of Youth Congress and NSUI (National Students' Union of India) also arrived at the spot, following which a fight broke out between them, a police official said.

He said the activists from both sides attacked each other with stones and sticks.

He said police used mild cane charge to disperse the activists.

No one was injured in the clash, the official said, adding that no case has been registered so far as nobody has approached police.

In a controversial move, the Central government recently notified rules to ban sale and purchase of cattle for slaughter at animal markets, triggering a massive political storm with the chief ministers of West Bengal and Kerala opposing the move.

Amid protests in the Left-ruled Kerala, a calf was slaughtered on May 28 allegedly by workers of the youth wing of the party.
