CEC to travel to Assam next week to review poll preparations

The Chief Election Commissioner is expected to visit Assam next week to review the preparations for Assembly elections scheduled to be held in March-April next year.

New Delhi: The Chief Election Commissioner is expected to visit Assam next week to review the preparations for Assembly elections scheduled to be held in March-April next year.

CEC Nasim Zaidi along with Election Commissioners Achal Kumar Joti and Om Prakash Rawat are likely to tour the state on December 21-22.

They will meet senior state poll authorities in capital Guwahati and take stock of the electoral rolls preparation, hold review meetings with political parties, senior government and police officials before initiating measures for the state's Assembly election due next year.

Assam has a 126-member Assembly and Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi-led Congress party is in power in the state.
