Bengaluru: Amid renewed efforts by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to clear the city of encroachments, the Joint Committee on Tank Encroachment (JCTE) has said that it will recommend dismissal of civic officials who sanctioned illegal building plans.

Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker KB Koliwad, who heads the JCTE, said the erring officials who gave permission to structures that encroached upon storm water drains and lake beds should be dismissed from service.

The panel is also in favour of booking realty developers and seizure of their properties if they are found to have constructed buildings on drains and lake beds.

Over the weekend, the BBMP had carried out a massive demolition drive in Avani Shrungerinagar and Mahadevapura areas.

The demolition drive was carried following a court order and directive by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
