Delhi Police, CISF initiate probe in Rajiv Chowk 'shooting' incident

Delhi Police and Central Industrial Security Force ( CISF) have initiated separate probes in a major security breach that occurred at the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station last night when a 22-year-old man allegedly shot himself with a country-made gun.

The police will now look to find out how the person managed to enter the platform part of the metro station with a gun.

The incident, which took place around 9:45 p.m. last night, raised serious concern about the security of the Delhi Metro network.

According to the officials, the person, who has been identified as Sridesh Adhikari, is a native of a village in Uttar Pradesh and was rushed to the RML Hospital, where he was being operated upon.

Police said Sridesh boarded a train from the Chandni Chowk Metro Station (on the Yellow Line) and was on his way to Noida (on the Blue Line).

While changing trains at Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, he went to a secluded corner and allegedly tried to shoot himself in the head.

A case under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act has been registered and the investigation in underway, a police officer said, adding that Sridesh will be interrogated once he is declared fit by the doctors.
