Two get life imprisonment for murdering woman, her two kids in Delhi

New Delhi: A Delhi court has given life term to two men for murdering a woman and her two children saying they committed the crime in a pre-planned manner with extreme brutality.

The court, however, said convicts Bhagirath and Deepak Nanda, both Delhi residents, do not deserve the extreme penalty of capital punishment as the case does not fall in rarest of rare category. "There is no doubt that in this case the convicts were in dominating position upon all the three deceased. It is also on record that there is no provocation to the convicts by any of the three innocent helpless victims to commit the offence," Additional Sessions Judge V K Dahiya said. "All the three victims have been stabbed number of times and all were lying in a pool of blood. This shows the brutality of the acts of the convicts in which they have committed the murders," the court said. "Convicts had committed triple murder in a pre-planned manner with extreme brutality and they were in dominating position upon all the three victims," it said. The court imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 each on 32-year-old Bhagirath and 33-year-old Deepak. According to the police, Bhagirath and Deepak murdered 33-year-old Seema and her seven and four-year-old sons after entering their Uttam Nagar house on January 9, 2009. Bhagirath was the brother-in-law of the woman and Deepak his close friend. The duo had inflicted serious?injuries?on the neck and face of the victims and had slit their throats with razor, it said, adding that the several gold and silver jewellery articles were also missing from the house after the incident.
