Panaji: After it emerged that the two Delhi-based women who were allegedly gang-raped recently near here were working for an escort service, Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Sunday said there is need to check such activities in the state.

"We seriously need to think over it... We will not shrug the responsibility," Parsekar told reporters, when asked about presence of escort services in the state.

The two women were allegedly abducted and gangraped by five men in Anjuna in their bid to recover over Rs 1 lakh which was cheated of by another escort from a relative of one of the accused in the past.

Police investigations revealed that the women worked for an escort agency and were not tourists.

When asked whether the government will crack down on such services, Parsekar said there is no need to give special instructions to police and it is already given.

"The instructions are already issued to the police. There is no need to issue such instructions again," he added.
