Will probe Goa drug nexus: CBI to High Court

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday told the Bombay High Court that it was willing to probe Goa`s police-politician drug nexus probe.

Panaji: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday told the Bombay High Court that it was willing to probe Goa`s police-politician drug nexus probe.

CBI counsel Carlos Ferreira told the Panaji bench of the Bombay High court that a notification to the effect would be issued soon. In March, the agency had told the court it was unable to handle the probe because it was "overburdened" and that the local language was a hindrance.

A division bench comprising Justices S Dharmadhikari and FM Reis was hearing a petition filed by National Students Union of India (NSUI) president Sunil Kavthankar, seeking a federal probe into the drug nexus.

The probe encompasses two criminal cases in which two Israeli drug dealers Yaniv Benaim alias Atala and David Driham alias Dudu`s kin were arrested along with seven police officials.

Home Minister Ravi Naik`s son Roy has also been linked to the Israeli drug mafia by the international media as well as opposition legislators.
