Haryana Jats to restart reservation agitation from December 23

Representatives of as many as 45 khaps from Haryana on Tuesday decided to relaunch their agitation for reservation under the OBC category from December 23.

Jind: Representatives of as many as 45 khaps from Haryana on Tuesday decided to relaunch their agitation for reservation under the OBC category from December 23.

The decision to relaunch the Jat agitation, earlier stopped in view of the panchayat election in the state, was taken here in a meeting of the 45 khaps chaired by chief of the Binain Khap, Nafe Singh Nain.

Addressing the gathering national spokesperson of Sarva Jat Khap Panchayat, Sube Singh Samain said a rally will be organised in Jind on December 23.

In the rally, it will be decided if we would organise a 'Delhi Gherao' or initiate a 'jail bharo' programme, he said.

He said Jat agitation this time will not stop even if the panchayat elections are announced in the state.

The panchayat poll dates were announced in the state last month also, but were later cancelled after a Supreme Court order over the educational qualification of the candidates.

Sube Singh asked the representatives to spread awareness among the rural population about the issue in the state through posters and bhajan (devotional songs) programmes.

He said they will form a committee by October 20 to spread awareness and raise funds for the agitation.

Sube Singh said in his address that they have nothing to do with the khaps-led by Yashpal Malik and Hawa Singh Sangwan.

The Jat community in the state has been protesting for reservation under the OBC category and had last month cancelled the agitation in view of the panchayat polls.
