Raipur: A middle-aged woman died of swine flu in Chhattisgarh's Durg, taking the death toll due the deadly disease in the state to four.

"A 53-year-old woman from Durg district died in a hospital on February 17. Her reports, which arrived from Delhi Sunday confirmed she died of swine flu," Deputy Director, Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP), Dr S M Murty, told PTI Sunday.

The first swine flu death was reported in the state early this month.

So far this year, 277 samples of suspected swine flu patients have been sent to National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Delhi, for confirmation of H1N1 virus, of which 38 tested positive, he said.

Meanwhile, health officials have been asked to take preventive measures to control the spread of the disease and make proper arrangements for treatment of patients.

Isolation wards have been set up at Dr B R Ambedkar Hospital, Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) Bilaspur, Maharani hospital in Jagdalpur. All district hospitals have been directed to take special care of swine flu patients, he said.

Health department has already issued advisory to all government hospitals and medical colleges in this connection, he said.
